Financial Support for Students

Learner Support Funds

This fund is used to assist students in financial difficulty.

Each case is considered individually. Awards are made towards costs of course books and materials, educational visits or course related expenses, childcare and travel, but not usually for general living costs. Application forms are available from Student Services or seek advice from the College Welfare Advisor.

 

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

EMAs are allowances that are payable to students aged 16, 17 and 18 and whose family household income is £30,810 or less, and depending on the income level, can be £10, £20 or £30 a week. Bonuses of £100 are also payable in January and June.

Adult Learning Grant (ALG)

ALGs are grants of £10, £20 or £30 a week payable to students who are aged 19 or over if certain eligibility conditions are met.
