Students with Mental Health Difficulties
For many students with mental health difficulties, completing a course at college does not present any particular issues, but where it does, our Pastoral Co-ordinator and Counsellor Elaine Mort is available to ensure that appropriate support and safeguards are in place. This might involve:
• Regular or periodic meetings to monitor how things are going.
• Agreement on how the College might network with others supporting the student (e.g. family, health workers)
• Providing a support worker where particular difficulties might be experienced.
• Plans for situations and pressures which can be avoided or which require a particular approach.
• Agreement on what action will be taken in a crisis or other situation where the student is at risk.
• Agreement on the approach that will be taken if the student is not well enough to attend college or to deal with particular pressures.
