Who is the programme for?

For those students who have an interest in working within any area of Retail, Travel and Tourism, Design and Media. Alternatively it can be used to develop these skills whilst keeping career options open.

What qualifications do I need?

2 GCSEs at grade E – G or an Entry Level qualification.

What is the programme structure?

The programme will help you to:

• Understand procedures used in the retail industry such as stock control, cash handling, and related security issues
• Develop your personal skills in customer service and communicating with others
• Recognise what contributes to ‘healthy living’, developing your knowledge of healthy lifestyles
• Build good study skills if you wish to continue with your studies
• Develop your creative skills in art and design or multimedia

What does it include?

This course will be based in several vocational areas which will include art and design, catering, travel and tourism, multimedia, and business studies. In addition, students will complete a functional skill qualification in English or Maths.

Functional Skills

If you are aged 16-18 and following this course as a full time student your programme will include tutorials, enrichment activities and the development of functional skills.
Functional skills are recognised and valued by employers and universities and are an important part of your course as they will help to improve your performance and confidence at college and in the future.

You will have access to variety of working environments within the college.

How is the programme assessed?

Throughout the programme you will be continually assessed through a variety of presentations, witnessed tasks, and some pieces of written work.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

There may be additional costs for text books.

What can I do next?

Staff and students have regular contact with the careers service. On completing this Level 1 course students may wish to access a Level 1 or Level 2 course in a specific vocational area (subject to the entry requirements).

Adults aged 19+ will need to pay a course fee of £250 you may qualify for remission of fees, in which case you will pay a reduced registration fee of £25. (Fees for 2011/2012)
