Who is the programme for?

This course is for those students who wish to pursue a career in the fitness industry working as a personal trainer in a gym, leisure club or running their own business.

What qualifications do I need?

Successful completion of NVQ Level 2 in Instructing Exercise and Fitness or related Level 2 qualification

What is the programme structure?

Students will study a range of units as part of this qualification including:-

• Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
• Principles of exercise, fitness and health
• Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation
• Reflect on and develop own practice in providing exercise and physical activity
• Design, manage and adapt a personal training programme with clients
• Apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
• Plan, market and sell services

What does it include?

This is a practical course with some theory, which will include anatomy and physiology, principles of fitness and exercise, working with clients, designing personal training programmes and business development.

Functional Skills

If you are aged 16-18 and following this course as a full time student your programme will include tutorials, enrichment activities and the development of functional skills.
Functional skills are recognised and valued by employers and universities and are an important part of your course as they will help to improve your performance and confidence at college and in the future.

Are there any special facilities for the programme?

This course will be delivered in the new Hartford Performing Arts and Sports Centre which includes a new 4 Court Sports Hall and Fitness Gym which houses a range of cardio-vascular and resistance machines, free weights and fitness testing equipment.

How is the programme assessed?

Assessment will be made up of practical assessment and through the building of an evidence portfolio throughout the year.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

Students will be required to purchase the college sports wear which will be worn when in the fitness gym.

Adults aged 19+ will need to pay a course fee of £250 you may qualify for remission of fees, in which case you will pay a reduced registration fee of £25. (Fees for 2011/2012)
