Nigel Haworth, Michelin Chef
| Nigel Haworth, celebrated Michelin Chef and North-West entrepreneur, downed tools at the famous Northcote Manor to thrill diners at a signature evening in Royals Brasserie last week. Nigel very kindly agreed to head up the student restaurant and oversee the eager and enthusiastic young trainee chefs as they assisted in preparing a feast for an overflowing restaurant of food enthusiasts and VIPs.The 50 diners were greeted by the hospitality and catering students and served a six course gastronomic delight.Once everything was under control in the kitchen Nigel mingled with the diners, chatted about his passion for food and his past experiences when working at renowned restaurants and hotels such as the Royal Berkshire in Ascot, the Grosvenor Hotel in London and the Schweizerhof Hotel in Switzerland, where he worked with one of the finest chefs, Natalie Viscardie. Nigel returned to England totally disillusioned by the standards in restaurants and catering in the region and decided to take the post of a lecturer where life began as a chef at Accrington and Rossendale College for eighteen months, so Nigel fully understands the dedication required by college tutors“The evening was a real success, it was a pleasure to work with a team of such enthusiastic young students, and they showed great potential and will certainly have a future in the catering industry, credit to the college tutors and the excellent facilities” Said Nigel. Many young men and women have trained under his watchful eye and are now themselves leaders of this vibrant profession heading up high profile kitchens all over the country. Training has always been at the forefront of Nigel's mind and consequently he and fellow North West chefs formed the North West Chefs Circle, a body determined to galvanise professionals, lecturers and students together for the better good of the industry.Jason Palin, Catering tutor said, “It is fantastic that someone as busy as Nigel will give up his time to mentor young people, to pass on his expertise and more importantly instil enthusiasm into the students and encourage them in their choice of profession.”
