New financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds
Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) for new students has now gone (see below if you are on EMA this year), but financial help is still available through the College’s Student Support Fund. Students facing financial hardship can apply for help with:
The arrangements are that:
- Costs of travel to and from College
- Course books and equipment
- Uniforms
- Educational visits

Special arrangements for young people in care, leaving care, or independently receiving Income Support, or disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance
You are entitled to financial support totalling £1,200. Please make sure you let us know on the application form.
EMA for continuing students
The arrangements are that:
- If your first year of EMA was 2009/10 your EMA will continue
- If your first year of EMA was 2010/11 and you got £30 a week you will get £20 a week. If you get £10 or £20 a week there would be no EMA.
