African Support & Assistance Project (ASAP)
In January 2005 staff and students created a new charity with the aim of re-building a local school in the village of Befole. The village is located in the mountainous country of Lesotho, one of the poorest countries in southern Africa, and the community no longer has a school facility.
We have now entered what we hope will be our final year of fundraising. Our cash balance now stands at just over £41,000 and we hope to commence work on the school in Lesotho in November 2012. We hope that the school will be completed six months later.
Over the past six years, staff and students at the College have worked imaginatively to raise funds in many different ways:
- Sponsored walks
- Arts & Crafts fairs
- Proceeds from the Fashion Shows and other College events
- Regular Car Boot sales in the College car park
- A sponsored bike ride across Vietnam
- Donations from Grantham College and Loughborough College, our partners in this project
- Individual donations (large and small) from hundreds of people
It's great to know that our ambition for the people of Befole will soon be achieved.
