African Support & Assistance Project (ASAP)

In January 2005 staff and students created a new charity with the aim of re-building a local school in the village of Befole. The village is located in the mountainous country of Lesotho, one of the poorest countries in southern Africa, and the community no longer has a school facility.

We are committed to starting construction of the new school, using local labour and materials, by the end of 2009 and our fund currently stands at just over £25,000.

Over the past five years, people have worked imaginatively to raise funds in many different ways:

  • Sponsored walks
  • Proceeds from the Fashion Shows and other College events
  • Regular Car Boot sales in the College car park
  • A sponsored bike ride across Vietnam
  • Donations from Grantham College and Loughborough College, our partners in this project
  • And, finally, individual donations (large and small) from hundreds of people
