Mid Cheshire College has a tradition of providing quality education to all sections of the community. Our Higher Education courses are no exception and support our reputation for excellence in a friendly and supportive environment.
Choosing a Higher Education course is never easy, with a range of courses and universities to consider, as well as the practical considerations such as subject options, costs and convenience. Whether you choose to study with us because of our reputation for quality, or because we are your local College, you can be assured of a warm welcome and a quality learning experience.
These vocational qualifications integrate academic and work-based learning; therefore you can study while at work, as most programmes are 1 or 2 days per week.
Current fees are significantly less than those charged by universities.
The Right Choice
Mid Cheshire College is innovative and forward thinking and its provision is rated Grade 1 - Outstanding. Art & Design students now have the opportunity to work in the brand-new, purpose built Arts & Creative Media building, boasting state-of-the-art studios and IT rooms.
The College has several exciting government-funded projects including virtual reality and interactive multi-media developments which means that the College is at the leading edge of educational advances. Our Higher Education courses reflect this commitment to innovation, and are continuously updated to ensure they reflect current approaches and use modern technologies.
Our extensive range of Higher Education courses also reflect our commitment to innovation and the College is proud to have close links with local universities including the University of Chester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Employability Information for Students and Employers
Mid Cheshire College places employability at the forefront of its higher education provision.
We are an Associate College of Manchester Metropolitan University and a Partner College of the University of Chester.
We share with Manchester Metropolitan University, the definition of employability as:
‘the development of skills, abilities and personal attributes that enhance our students’ capability to secure rewarding and satisfying outcomes in their economic, social and community lives.’
In other words, we wish to produce graduates who not only gain jobs or promotions, but also have the skills and qualities to benefit themselves and the wider community as well as their organisation.
To achieve these goals the College and its staff will ensure that students receive:
• Personal initial advice and guidance with a course tutor to ensure that their course will fit with their career aspirations and maximize their employment prospects;
• A range of learning opportunities, including work based experience, to enable them to succeed in their course;
• Access to professional careers guidance, study skills support, counseling facilities and welfare and financial advice throughout their time in College. For information on financial support from 2012 please visit http://www.direct.gov.uk/yourfuture
All our programmes, whether Foundation Degrees or other Higher Education qualifications, are strongly vocational in character. They are particularly designed to reflect and sustain the local and regional employment market. They are designed with the participation of local employers and are delivered by tutors, who have industry relevant experience. Our programmes provide students not only with up-to-date industry specific skills but also a range of generic skills relevant to a wide range of employment contexts, both public and private.
To ensure that our courses remain industry relevant, our College has an extensive network of direct links with local and regional employers. The College has an Employer Services Unit which has developed a database of local employer contacts. A number of employer engagement projects have resulted in Foundation Degree students being offered employment.
All students on our Foundation Degree programmes are required, as part of their course, to undertake relevant work related projects.
While at College, students can take advantage of excellent facilities to provide careers counselling and other support. In addition, depending on where they are registered, students can also access the careers and vacancies services of the universities:
